Beauty Fails: Volume II

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you've all had a great week. Today I wanted to bring you another edition of one my most popular posts ever: Beauty Fails!

I have a few products to tell you about this time, so let's get started!

Cailyn Gel Eyeliner and Tinted Lip Balm

I got both of these in Ipsy bags, and they are both awful. The eyeliner actually started out pretty well;  I wore it a lot for about a month and even included it in a favorites post shortly after I got it. Unfortunately, it dried up into a hard little disk shortly thereafter and I had to stop using it because it became really crumbly and gross. As for the lip balm, I used it exactly once and thought it was SO dry and uncomfotable that I was never inclined to try it again.

Elf HD Concealers

I have two of these and, despite heroic efforts to make them work, they just...don't. Neither has much pigment to speak of, and they're both kind of weirdly runny and hard to blend. It's almost like, as soon as I start to blend them, they kind of blend away and disappear. Not a fan!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel

This was another Ipsy bag item. I tried it numerous times, but A) I don't really feel like it does much of anything, and B) it actually dried up into little chunks over the course of a day and ended up making me look like I had eyebrow dandruff! It was totally gross.

Evologie Stay Clear Cream
I got this sample from Birchbox. It seemed fine when I applied it, but as soon as I put makeup on top, it started to ball up and pill. I eventually figured out it was this product and not anything else I was using, so...fail!

Supergoop! CC Cream SPF 35 in Light to Medium
Another Birchbox item that didn't work out. This only comes in two shades, and this one (the lighter one, obviously) is WAY too dark for my skintone, and it's also a little orange-y. I hoped it would be sheer enough that it wouldn't matter, but...nope.

My Prime Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer
The third and final Birchbox item! This is probably the weirdest of the bunch. I couldn't figure out what the heck to do with this product: Is it a primer? A moisturizer? ...Both? I have no idea, but no matter how I used it in my routine, it actually made my skin MORE oily than it would've been otherwise - the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do. Steer clear of this one, for sure!

Wet n Wild Fergie Photo Op Eyeshadow Palette in Suburban Jungle

And finally, there's this eyeshadow palette. I had read numerous poor reviews of these WnW Fergie shadows and knew I probably shouldn't buy this, but...I went ahead and big fat did it anyway, and totally came to regret it. The shadows themselves are dry, not pigmented and just generally awful. There's very little I can do with this palette because the shadows (despite being really pretty shades in the pan) just don't show up on my eyes at all.

So there you have it: the second edition of Beauty Fails!! I hope you enjoyed this and it maybe helps you skip a product or two you might have otherwise considered.

Tried any bad beauty products lately? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I really liked the templates that I got with my Anastasia Eyebrow kit, but never got comfortable with the brow gel. My brows get a little wild, but never liked that stuff! Disappointed about the elf concealers! Thanks for the heads up!

    1. Yeah, the Anastasia brow gel is totally weird. And you're welcome for the heads-up about the Elf concealers; they're definitely not worth the money (which is really saying something, considering they only cost $3!). :)

  2. Ugh, totally agree with you on the Fergie palette! I bought two of those limited edition palettes because the colors were so great but they performed so poorly I returned them. I'm totally that asshole who returns even $1 makeup if I'm unhappy with it!

I love these posts. I'm always hesitant to do them myself because I don't want to hurt people's feelings but maybe I should anyway haha. I actually really enjoy the ABH Brow Gel but I use a the tinted kind. Maybe the formulas are different because I haven't had to deal with flakies, thankfully!

    1. I always have mixed feelings about writing these kinds of posts because I don't want to be too negative. But I also feel like, if there's something out there that's really horrible and I can help someone save some money by not buying it, maybe I'm doing a public service! ;)

Interesting that you like the tinted Anastasia brow gel; maybe that one is better, or maybe it's just a chemistry thing! I like the $3 Elf Eyebrow Kit and use it almost daily - have you ever tried it? Awesome and cheap! :)

    2. That's pretty much the ONE thing I use in each of my Get the Look posts! I love that little kit! I branched out for my birthday and got a powder duo and the brow gel using a gift card just to see what all the ABH buzz was about. I really like both products but I'll probably never repurchase because it's so pricey.
